Chartwell Prints - Chartwell Press is located in Seattle, Washington. I work mainly in etching and mezzotint but cannot resist showing some of my other work, (For those print aficionados John Smith was in fact a well known print artist in the 16th century)
Pedigree - I have a degree in fine art printmaking from the University of Washington and studied under Jacob Lawrence, George Tsutakawa, Glen Alps and others. I have works in private collections in Japan, UK, Sweden, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Germany, Canada, Finland and throughout the US.
Editions - I do an initial printing of 3-5 Artist proofs labeled A/P on the prints between the title and signature. Editioned prints are signed titled and numbered. All prints are pulled from hand tooled copper or zinc plates. Intaglio, Aquatint are usually editioned at 150 strikes. Mezzotint is a more labor intensive process and the plates have much shorter "life", editions are smaller and usually 50 strikes . Other techniques will be editioned depending on the technique and the complexity of the print. These are individual hand printed images and there may be some slight variations from the scans shown on the site. I will do special editions or commissions. email me and we can "talk".
Techniques - For those of you unfamiliar with fine art print techniques and some of the terms I have used this is a great link to the Center for Contemporary Printmaking that gives definitions of terms and short descriptions of techniques. http://www.contemprints.org/Explore_Glossary.cfm
Other Works - I also work in other media primarily pastel and water media. Some of these pieces can be found
in the "Other Works" catalog.
